Yesterday: Reworked the mathematical storyline for the close-up of the problem description. Incorporated "new" paper into what's been done (and how that impacts the presentation flow). Re-did figures for fully connected graphs. Yes, I could've written a program to do it, but by the time I worked out how to preserve vector shapes, it wouldn't be worth it.Today: Wrap up presentation conclusion, work left to do, and timeline adjusted from the proposal. Start describing topics, mathematical techniques and papers from proposal and paper.
Future Todos: Create list of motivations and future work of other animated articulated research. Start note-taking on reading list and fundamental mathematical concepts. Read more...

Yesterday: Spent much of the morning trying to get as much of the presentation polished as possible. Included the solution steps, math for representing the problem definition, and motivating animations. Met with Faramarz for feedback on presentation to-date. Some good suggestions about tweaking the storyline surrounding the more technical parts of the presentation. Incorporated some of the changes on how to visualize probabilistic joint rotations.
Today: Incorporate remainder of Faramarz's suggestions. Wrap up core of presentation. (Gently sick, so working from home).
Future Todos: Additional slides to cover broad range of topics and papers within the research project and proposal. Consider list motivations and future work of other animated articulated research. Start note-taking on reading list and fundamental mathematical concepts. Read more...

Yesterday: Presentation layout. Smoothed out 123D Catch point cloud mesh for example of cougar for big picture. Incorporated prior presentations for motivation.
Today: Get presentation as finished as possible for feedback from Faramarz. Detail problem definition, what's been done to-date, proposed solution, etc. Consider list motivations and future work of other animated articulated research. Start note-taking on reading list and fundamental mathematical concepts. Read more...

Yesterday: Email off to CV group for candidacy group dry run. Working on presentation layout.
Today: Get presentation in order for a preliminary dry-run with supervisors tomorrow. Consider checking out a couple more motivations and future work of other animated articulated research to incorporate. Start note-taking on reading list and fundamental mathematical concepts. Group meeting today. May mostly work from home to keep start of cold from progressing. Read more...

Yesterday: Able to perform a few basic tests for the paper to get some graphics and figures in. Sent off full package for candidacy including single author paper, proposal, and reading list, with a link to a collection of the papers.
Today: Flesh out the candidacy presentation a little bit. Send off an email to the CV group about the dry run presentation. Consider checking out a couple more motivations and future work of other animated articulated research to incorporate. Start note-taking on reading list and fundamental mathematical concepts. Yesterday: Spent a solid evening, night and early morning attempting to install, re-install and just get something running for testing and results purposes. The installation likely needs to have everything scrubbed and PCL and dependencies re-built manually. Was able to get an old version of the executable to work and then ran a sampling of tests for simple timing results. While the whole lot of this should be re-done professionally (with theoretical improvements implemented, tested against real data sets, and analyzed for improvements, etc) its sufficient in the meanwhile.
Today: Graphs, figures, results written up. Paper scanned for proofing, and whole package of documents sent off to Mary in turn to be sent off to the examiners. Papers uploaded to dropbox for ease of access. (Tomorrow: get PCL successfully installed, and work on candidacy presentation). Consider checking out a couple more motivations and future work of other animated articulated research. Read more...

Yesterday: Couple of edits to the related work section. Transfered to the working on the results section, but needed to run a few more tests for data. Unfortunately, spent most of the afternoon/early evening struggling to get boost functioning. Somewhere there was an update, and now cmake can no longer find the boost libraries. I'm not even sure I can find the boost libraries (the -mt - multi-threading library - doesn't appear to exist). Have even tried the home PC, but its undergoing the same issues.
Today: Try to get boost working, and the application up and running again. Run a collection of tests for timing analysis. Put together results section. Wrap up odds and ends within the paper, including the abstract. Either today or tomorrow print out and do a final read-through before sending off to the supervisors. Consider checking out a couple more motivations and future work of other animated articulated research.
Roadblocks: Boost libraries being found by cmake. Read more...

Yesterday: Sick day. Friday was mostly spent in meetings and writing emails, discussing motivations, challenges, and direction. This included career counseling drop-in, and discussing with both supervisors. While important, this still leaves work to be done on the paper. Started laying out the presentation, including possible future directions for the PhD project. See about getting a sample candidacy presentation from somewhere.
Today: Wrap up related-work section of the single author paper for candidacy. Finish mathematical descriptions. Get a chunk of the results section done, and start tackling the abstract. Consider checking out a couple more motivations and future work of other animated articulated research. Read more...

Yesterday: Went through the future work/motivations suggestions from \cite{ross10} and \cite{chang11b,chang09b}. Affirmation of a couple of directions within development (non-rigid support, performance improvement), with a possible reinforcement of two-stage processing for supporting incremental/iterative updating (~\cite{chang09b}: 1. determine structure, 2. real-time tracking). Admin work for candidacy submission forms.
Today: Wrap up related-work section of the single author paper for candidacy. Finish mathematical descriptions. Consider checking out a couple more motivations and future work of other animated articulated research. Layout out candidacy presentation, incorporating these possible options as justifications for continuing with the PhD. Will also swing by the grad-studies career counseling drop-in session.
Roadblocks: Watch how much time is spent off-topic with colleagues. Read more...
