Interesting interview by Lex Fridman with John Carmack - one of the programmers behind Doom, Quake, etc, currently working at Meta on the metaverse and AI.
Some of the interesting takeaways so far:
- thoughts on programming languages: "... and then you have C++ for real work" (18:39)
- thoughts on IDEs: "... a lot of the big companies can learn from the hard core game dev. side of things; where it still boggles the mind how hostile to debuggers and IDEs the silicon valley, venture-backed are -- they are not big on debuggers and IDES, so much of it is emacs and vim... just assume debuggers just don't work" (56:48 - 58:00)
