Yesterday: Meeting with supervisors in an attempt to idea-generate a PhD-worthy project, given Chang's work. The suggested approach is to play with it for a year and see what comes of it. Supervisors seem positive that candidacy will go fine, and that it does happen for PhD students to discover their project has already been done midway through. Set up to better track project.
Today: Progress with the related-work section of the single author paper for candidacy. Aiming to grab some mathematical descriptions from the proposal as well as other sources. Will review some of the motivation and future work of other animated articulated research. Will start laying out candidacy presentation, incorporating these possible options as sound justifications for continuing with the PhD.
Roadblocks: N/A
Where Does this Fit In: The single author paper demonstrates to the committee my capacity to write which in turn demonstrates my ability to communicate effectively and share my ideas with a broader audience. By exploring other researcher's possible motivations and future work, I can improve my own justification for how the the project is important in the grand scheme of things, and worthwhile to continue exploration.
